Sabrina, aka worlds best travel hacker, scored us a pair of round trip flights to Europe for $321.33 each where we spent the next 10 days on a road trip driving a tiny manual transmission Fiat around Sicily, Italy tasting wine, and scuba diving in one of the the worlds smallest country’s Malta, but not before wrecking our rental car in the romantic alley ways of Erice, Sicily, Italy on our very first day. After a long 3 hour drive from indianapolis to chicago and an 8 hour red eye flight across the pond to london UK we had a short layover before catching catching the final leg of our cheap flight into Brussels, Belgium where we then needed to hop on a train ride to charleroi, belgium. From charleroi Belgium we caught a 2 hour flight to Palermo, Sicily, Italy for 80 Euro each. And Finally after what felt like an eternity of flights, we rented a tiny economy Fiat with a manual transmission and set out to drive across Sicily over the next few days and visit some of the most popular and romantic towns on this island of italy. An hour later in the middle of the night we finally reached the small town of Erice, Sicily, Italy where our first hotel was located in between some extremely narrow cobblestone roads in which our tiny car could just barely clear turning a corner, with guidance from someone on the outside of the car, and our GPS decided it was totally cool to send us down these narrow streets that seemed very likely to get most people stuck in. We may have had a slight mishap here, which I’ll show you the result of in just a moment. The train tickets to our next flight cost 29 Euro eachIt felt great to finally be done with the major portion of our travel from the United States over to Sicily Italy, and even better to have made it out of the tiny alleys without getting stuck and checked into Hotel Elimo where we could finally relax and get some sleep in an actual bed. To say the least, we were exhausted from the nearly 24 hours of travel to get to our hotel we crashed for the night. The next morning we woke up to have a delightful cup of morning coffee with breakfast in the quaint Hotel Elimo nestled inside the cobblestone streets of Erice. The views from the breakfast room and the outdoor patio space we’re beautiful and refreshingBut we had a hotel booked in Agrigento Sicily the following evening, and we needed to check out of our hotel that morning, so we didn’t have much time to spend in Erice. From what we saw Erice was a cute town with tiny cobble stone streets, and birdseye views for miles, but it was time do what we came here to do and hit the road and begin our road trip across the island of Sicily and see what else Italy had to offer.Marsala was our next stop, which was a quick 1 hour drive from Erice, but in upcoming videos we will be spending several days in Taormina, Sicily, Italy turned out to be one our favorite places we’ve ever been in Europe, and then we’ll be catching a quick flight to the smallest country in the world, Malta, and also visiting the tiny island off of Malta named Gozo, where things are quite a bit different than what we’re used to. Sabrina has a friend she met in Tailand who now lives in Gozo and owns a scuba diving business, so we’ll be meeting her and doing some scuba diving in Gozo in our next video. For now we’re headed to spend the rest of the day and night in Agrigento which is known for it’s well preserved ancient temple ruins. While in Agrigento we stayed at Hotel Villa Athena and had our first taste of a long Sicilian meal overlooking the Temple of Concordia, which we had a chance to walk to and see up close the following morning. In Marsala Sicily we had our first chance to sit down and enjoy some Italian wine and our first proper Sicilian meal. After spending some time walking around Marsala we began our 2 hour road trip across sicily towards Agrigento where we had a room booked for $100 Euro at Hotel Villa Athena
