Tipo 00 is a one-hatted restaurant located in Melbourne’s city centre and has been on my to-eat list for a very long time. I finally got to dine there (before COVID hit) and it did not disappoint! It is known as ‘modern Italian’ and is usually very difficult to get a seat unless you make a booking well in advance.
We ordered the Chef’s Menu, which comprised a mix of starters, mains and desserts, specially curated by the kitchen team, for $70.
We ended up receiving the following dishes:
STARTERS:
1. Focaccia with ricotta and basil olive oil
2. Arancini balls on aioli
3. Grilled asparagus, black garlic and watercress
4. Grilled ox-tongue, balsamic and pink peppercorns
MAINS:
5. Black squid ink tagliolini, squid & bottarga (my favourite dish)
6. Gnocchi with braised duck, porcini mushroom & pecorino pepato with witlof, cos lettuce & apple
DESSERTS:
7. Tiramisu with chocolate, coffee & mascarpone
8. Ricotta bombolone, sambuca and orange
The dining experience was incredible and definitely lived up to the hype. One of the best Italian restaurants I have been to in Melbourne.
