Bruce and Ron taste three Northern Italian red wines from the Valpolicella region. These are all made in the Ripasso method of having a second fermentation on the skins used to make Amarone wine. The three wines were all found at the same price point yet the reviews were far from similar.
Sorry for the poor sound quality — our mic died.
Wines sampled, all 2017s (in order of appearance and coincidentally in order from worst to best reviewed):
1. Bolla Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore $19.75 CAD
2. Mara Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore $19.25 CAD
3. Villa Girardi Bure Alto Ripasso $21.95 CAD * the winner today
For our Quebec friends: You can use your SAQ mobile app to see which outlets carry the Villa Girardi. We don’t recommend the other two.
