1. Watch a drive-in movie at Marymoor Park + Trophy Cupcakes
Catch a drive-in movie any Wednesday or Thursday in July & August at Marymoor Park (in Redmond).
It’s $25 per car and there is food for purchase onsite including my FAVORITE Trophy Cupcakes.
2. Spend a dog day of summer at Magnuson Park
Magnuson Park (in NE Seattle) has a great dog park including a huge off-leash area and access to the water for your four-legged friend(s).
Our dog wanted nothing to do with the water but had a great time anyway!
3. Grab a beer at Chuck’s Hop Shop
Chuck’s Hop Shop (in Greenwood) is the land of 1000 beers and they’re taking reservations for outdoor seating, socially distanced, each day.
There are food trucks there, daily, and we even caught a random live-music jazz performance there last weekend!
4. Find ‘Where ya at Matt?” for po’ boys and beignets
Speaking of food trucks… Where ya At Matt is AMAZING New Orleans soul food.
They specialize in po’ boy sandwiches made on soft rolls. I ordered shrimp and Bryce got chicken. We both devoured every last bite + saved room for dessert. Three beignets come in each order and next time we’ll order two because 1.5 beignets per person aren’t enough for me!
5. Visit the troll under the Fremont Bridge
Seattle is a city with such personality and weirdness, I love it. One of the oddest things we have here is a GIANT troll under the Fremont Bridge. It’s great for photos and for WOWing kids and adults from out of town. We like to surprise people with it, casually walking down the sidewalk nearby and letting them discover it on their own!
The troll is crushing a REAL Volkswagen bug in it’s troll hand.
6. Relax at Gas Works Park
Gasworks Park is just a few minutes away from the troll. It’s a great, huge, hilly spot to enjoy your day on the edge of Lake Union. Pack a picnic, bring your kite, or lounge on a blanket while watching the boats, birds, and sea planes go by. The house boats surround you, including the one from Sleepless in Seattle!
The park contains a huge old gas plant, true to the name.
7. Enjoy a taste of Italy at San Fermo
San Fermo (in Ballard) is an Italian restaurant inside a house. The food is excellent, they’ve got Italian wines a plenty, and they’ve just added outdoor seating! It’s exactly the street side dining experience that I loved in Italy.
We visited San Fermo recently but sat inside because it was too cold (in July!!) to sit outside. They did a great job of spreading out the humans and keeping us away from one another.
8, 9, and 10. Take a Ballard dessert tour
While you’re in Ballard take a dessert tour!
Start with (8.) ice cream from Salt & Straw, cross the street for takeout from (9.) Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery, then cross the finish line via the walk up window at (10.) Pie Bar!
