As Italy starts to ease “lockdown” measures, Paul Yanon and Axel Heinz reflect on rediscovering hobbies and changing routines. Axel shares his love for the foods and wines associated with the places he would like to visit following lockdown. He helps us try to understand the interesting characteristics of Bolgheri wines that express the territory’s sunny summer season.
Paul Yanon is the Vice President for the wine department of Colangelo & Partners, as well as the agency’s wine education lead. Paul earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications (Print) from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Prior to his move to the United States, he had been a wine writer, sommelier, marketer, and publicist for both boutique and large Australian wineries. Now, based in New York, Paul specializes in public relations for the wine industry and brings experience, knowledge, and a well-rounded skill set to the table.
Axel Heinz is the Winemaker and Estate Director of Ornellaia in the Bolgheri territory near Livorno, Tuscany. He has been the enologist in charge of production for Château Fourcas Loubaney, Château la Dominique Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, and Château la Commanderie de Mazeyres Pomerol. In 2000, he acted as a consultant representing the wines of many prestigious Bordeaux estates, for Bovitis SARL. He obtained his diploma in Agriculture, “Viticulture Oenologie,” from the Lycée d’Enseignement Général et Technologique Agricole de Bordeaux (LEGTA), and completed his Masters in Agronomy from the École Nationale d’Ingénieurs des Travaux Agricoles and the Enological School of Bordeaux.
