Natural home remedies to soothe my dogs itchy skin begins with 5 ways to soothe allergy inflamed dog skin, bug bites, skin rashes, cuts, bites and muscle pain, especially through the summer months.

5 natural home remedies for itchy dogs covering all eventualities and making them more comfortable.

1. Oregano is a perennial plant best known for Italian cooking but with amazing healing power for treating allergies, stings, muscle pain and bug bites.

Mix pure oregano oil with virgin olive oil at 1 part oregano oil to 4 parts olive oil, a 20% solution.

For bee stings and bug bites and muscle pain, rub the 20% solution onto the area daily until its gone.

2. Apple cider vinegar is great for rashes, redness and itching under the belly or groin area caused by plants in the undergrowth.

Apply a mixture of 50:50 apple cider vinegar and water with a cloth or sponge to soothe your dog and bring relief.

3. Lavender has fast healing properties and heal cuts and small wounds much faster. Add 10 drops of essential oil of lavender to a cereal sized bowl of water, soak a cotton ball or small cotton cloth in the water and squeeze out excess water.

Apply the dampened cloth to cuts, grazes and gashes daily until wound heals.

4. Cedar oil is an excellent bug repellant, non toxic to dogs and humans but toxic to mosquitoes, fleas, ticks and most flying insects.

Cedar oil, derived from conifer trees is commonly used in perfumes, aromatherapy and as an insect repellant. It’s anti-bacterial and anti-fungal considered safe by the Food and Drug Administration to used as a food preservative.

Any insect that comes into contact with cedar oil will eventually die including larvae and eggs.

Add 3 drops of the pure essential oil of cedar wood to 1 tablespoon of carrier oil such as grape seed oil.

Apply the oil mix to the base of your dogs neck, between the shoulders, on your dogs rear end above the tail between the hips, and a little under the armpits and groin to keep fleas away.

Another easy way to use cedar wood is by spraying with a pre-prepared 16oz spray product. You use the spray directly on your dogs coat before they go outside. You can also use it around the house, the yard and while travelling to repel fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and mites.

5. Epsom salts, that work well to bring down any inflammation and soothe your dog.

Mix 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt with 1 cup of water and soak a cloth in it before swabbing any swelling or irritation and repeat as needed.
