This is a blend of 90% Carricante & 10% Riesling from around Etna in Sicily.
When we talk about Island wine, or southern Italian wine, or Mediterranean wines, we are often not thinking about high altitude wines or cooler climates.
But these vineyards are grown as high as 860 meters Above sea level!
This creates strong acidity and long ripening cycle. The grapes as late as October 25th.
The is named after the Volcano eruption in 1614 that lasted for 10 whole years!
Around Etna, the wines have “volcanic soil”
This cuvee is aged in stainless steel on the lees, getting batonnage.
