10. The Italian woman, generally, expects you to pay the bill, however, take a leaf out of the Italian man’s book and stand your ground on paying the bill, especially if she offers to go dutch and split the bill.
Firstly, she could be testing you again, and secondly, she’s more likely to show you more respect if the date develops as to how you want it to.
11. If the first aperitivo goes well, and the evening is still young, men, suggest a stroll alongside the waters-edge if you’re on the coast or on one of the lakes, or a bit of shopping…. (now you know why it’s important to be prepared to splash the cash!).
12. Italians tend to be “touchy, feely” people.
If you’re not used to that, then chill out.
Respond in kind, but don’t over-do it!
13. Telling jokes is a bit of a tricky one, and depends on the type of personality of the person you’re with.
Italian women appreciate a sense of humour, so feel free to make her laugh.
However, Italians, especially men, do not have an Anglo-type sense of humour.
14. Make an effort to dress for the occasion. Italians do, and they will expect you to do the same, too. It’s a mark of respect, so men, don’t be disrespectful by turning up unshaven. And for women, well, it goes without saying that you know how to present yourself!
15. Men, Italian women play hard to get.
Ladies, Italian men expect you to play hard to get, so take any pressure off yourself, and relax.
16. Remember, food and wine are held in high regard by Italians, and an italian meal is not to be rushed. It’s to be enjoyed!
So, don’t rush your food when eating and dining, and enjoy the experience!
17. Men, the colour yellow signifies jealousy, so, if you do give her flowers, make sure they’re not yellow!
18. By all means learn about some of the cultural history of the area where you’re living.

Remember, la bella figura is important to Italians.
19. Patience is the key for letting any relationship with an Italian to develop, including getting that all-important first proper date.
