Dr. Neal Barnard, as he was giving an interview to the Italian web tv Veggie Channel, he had the pleasure to mention the benefits and the quality of the Italian cuisine.
“…I’ve had the pleasure visiting Italy many times and there are many aspects of the Italian cuisine that are very very favorable. For example, if I get a vegetable soup in Italy, it’s different from the vegetable soup I get in New York. The one in New York has vegetable but also a little bit of meat for flavor. The one in Italy would be pure vegetables. If I’m in Chicago and I ask for a pizza, they have never heard of pizza without cheese, they put that much cheese on top of it. But if I’m in Milan, if I’m in Rome, if I’m in Capri, everybody knows how to make a pizza without cheese. It’s easy, every restaurant has two or three without any cheese at all. So, there are many aspects that are very favorable. I didn’t want to say that the Italian diet was perfect. There are a few things that could be changed there as well. But it’s so easy to eat healthy food, vegetables, fruits, hole grains, beans, pasta. All these are very very good for you and the Italian cuisine is made of most of it”.
This interview with Dr. Neal Barnard was taken during the 6th International Congress on Vegetarian Nutrition held in Loma Linda, California on February 24.
Dr. Neal Barnard is the Founder and President of Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine in Washington DC.
