A demonstration to remember residents of a nursing home, who died amid the coronavirus pandemic, and in solidarity with those who are still locked inside ‘Pio Albergo Trivulzio’ took place in Milan, on Friday.
Dozens of family members of residents who passed away or are still inside the nursing home gathered at Trivulzio’s entrance with flowers, signs, and pictures of their beloved ones. A banner bearing the names of all those who died or became infected was also brought to the event.
The rally was organised by a group called ‘Committee for Justice and Truth for Victims of Trivulzio,’ a recently founded organisation which is demanding to investigate the reasons for a high mortality rate inside the facility.
Pio Albergo Trivulzio, which is one of the main nursing homes in Milan, is under investigation following the deaths of more than 200 people including residents and staff members since the start of the pandemic.
The investigation was opened following allegations from staff that management prohibited doctors and nurses from wearing protective masks to avoid alarming the elderly.
