Thick plumes of black smoke were visible from distance after a fire broke out at a chemical plant in Marghera, close to Venice, on Friday.
The blaze started earlier in the morning, following an explosion inside the 3V Sigma’s plant which left two people injured.
Local authorities urged residents to stay indoors and keep windows closed due to the release of toxic substances.
