They say Brazil is the highlight of South American cuisine, so we have to really find out by ourselves. Is Brazilian food delicious? This is our reaction as we tried some of the unique and most famous Brazilian food in Rio de Janeiro (specifically in Copacabana and Ipanema neighborhood) This video reveals one of the most epic nights we have in Rio, Brazil so far as e explored deep into the local experience and Brazilian food culture by taking the cooking class and guided by local Brazilian to the Churrascaria.
BREAK DOWN : what we had in this Brazillian Food Video:
1. Cachaca and Caipirinha: Start off with one of the most famous drinks in Brazil. Caipirinha is Brazil’s national cocktail, made with cachaça (sugarcane hard liquor), sugar, and lime. Cachaça is considered to be Brazil’s most common distilled alcoholic beverage.
2. LINGUIÇA FLAMBÉ : This is a popular Brazilian bar snack and a great one-bite appetizer to eat while having party with friends. It’s sliced Calabrese sausage, sautéed with onions and flambéed with a dose of cachaça to give it that extra oomph feeling.
3. Romeo & Juliette (ROMEU E JULIETA) : This is a traditional Brazilian quick dessert and considered to be one of the most popular Brazilian flavor combination consisting of guava paste and cheese.
4. Banana tosted farofa : Faros is a toasted cassava flour mixture which is eaten mainly in Brazil and normally served as side dish for meats, beans, feijoada (black bean stew).
5. Moqueca – Moqueca is a Brazilian seafood stew. It is slowly cooked in a terracotta cassole. Moqueca can be made with shrimp or fish as a base with tomatoes, onions, garlic, lime and coriander. I would say this is a mild version of most Thai and Indian curry dish
6. Pão de Queijo, or Brazilian cheese bread : This is a small, baked cheese roll or cheese bun, a popular snack and breakfast food in Brazil. It’s made with tapioca flour instead of wheat flour.
7. Pastel : In Brazil, pastel is a typical fast-food Brazilian dish, consisting of thin-crust pies with assorted fillings.
8. Churrasco style Brazilian meat buffet. Churrasco is the Portuguese and Hispanic name for beef or grilled meat more generally. It is a prominent feature in the cuisine of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. We went to “churrascaria” which is a place where meat is cooked in churrasco style. They serve grilled meat, many offering as much as one can eat: the waiters move around the restaurant with the skewers, slicing meat onto the customer’s plate. The place we went is called “Churrascaria Palace” in Rio de Janeiro which is well-worth the visit. It comes with Great food. Great service. Fantastic meat options. Very well stocked buffet.
Brazil! It was such a great journey we had in Rio de Janeiro trying different exotic and traditional Brazilian food. The highlight for us is, of course, learning Brazilian food culture through the kitchen and try cooking it by ourselves. If you are planning to visit Rio de Janeiro in the future, don’t forget to check out this cooking class with Simone (it was super fun!!)
