Whisky.com reviews the Glenallachie Madeira Wood Finish 12 Years
Glenallachie Madeira Wood Finish is part of the Wood Finish series, in which malts of different ages are matured in different types of barrels. The 12-year-old first matured for at least ten years in American oak barrels and then received his finish in barriques in which Malvasia Madeira Wine was previously stored. Malvasia is a red wine variety that is widespread in Italy, Spain and Croatia and is known for its spicy, floral and nutmeg-like aromas.
Glenallachie was given new life under the guidance of Billy Walker, the former master distiller of famous distilleries. The distillery has been producing for the past few years only for the blend industry, the last and only original bottling was in 2005. 4 different bottlings in total have now been designed for the new Core Range. Uncoloured, not cool-filtered and matured in different types of casks.
