This is part of our Italy Road Trip Series. After visiting the famous town of Alberobello, we headed towards Matera and on our way, we decided to take a quick detour to Ostuni. Unfortunately, it rained the entire two days and we were unable to explore the place the way we wanted to.
Ostuni – White city of Italy
Dotted with cute alleys, whitewashed houses, bright and colorful flowers embellishing the streets: it’s no wonder Ostuni is considered as one of the most beautiful towns in Puglia. Here’s an interesting story about this town – It is believed that the white paint – lime – was an effective disinfectant – and in Ostuni, it was traditionally used in large amounts. This saved the town from the epidemy.
Matera – Cave city of Italy
It is one of the oldest cities in the world and is famous for its extensive cave-dwelling districts. There are close to 3500 caves in the old city. It is a UNESCO world heritage site.
Monopoli – Colorful Seaside Town
Lovely beaches, quiet restaurants, beachfront properties, and an old town centre full of art and history make Monopoli one of the most beautiful towns on the Adriatic coast.
