– The restaurant industries have notoriously razor-thin margins. As a result, every dollar counts. So why are big food delivery services like ‘Skip the Dishes’ and ‘Uber Eats’ taking so much off the top? And could your craving for takeout be hurting your favourite local eateries?
Services like Uber Eats, Skip the Dishes, and others have been in high demand as local restaurants adapt to stay alive during the pandemic. The exposure to a new customer base, and easy access to a delivery fleet, is a dream come true for many eateries that really need a boost, or who don’t already have delivery as part of their business model. But some restaurants are finding out the hard way what the true cost of doing business is. If they are just hoping to stay afloat during these interesting times, the fees might just sink them.
To help us understand this delicate balance, we speak to Alex Fraser, a restaurant consultant from The Fifteen Group, to help us dive deeper into the problem, as well as some potential solutions.
