Joe Haliti, owner of Joe’s Italian Restaurant on North Frazier has been taking care of first responders for many years. Whether it be a hurricane, fire, or the Covid-19 Pandemic he has been there. On his wall he keeps a list of who he is planning on feeding for the day. Today they started early as they donated over 700 meals to HCA Conroe Hospital workers. Meals include lasagna, bread, and salads. His restaurant is not very large, he planned on expansion just before the pandemic hit. Now, his dining area has turned into a storage room. He receives a truckload of food daily. Not only is he feeding his paying customers who drive up daily to pick up meals but he is cooking over 250 meals a day for fire, ems, police, and other government workers and fire responders who have been put on the front lines. He gets no compensation for those meals as has been the case for years. When asked how he can do it he said the regular customers keep him in business which allows him to donate to the HEROS’s. Just last week almost every group of first resp[onders paraded through his parking lot with lights and sirens and calling out, “Thank You Joe”, over their pa’s.
